Computer F.A.Q.: Home

This guide has the answers to some of the Library's frequently asked computer questions. This includes common formatting and printing questions.

Computer Labs

The Library has computers available for you to use during our open hours.

There is also an Open Computer Lab with computers located in A103, across from the Success Center.

On the second floor on A building, there is an Open Lab located near A225.

When the library is closed, the Open Labs' computers are available whenever the building is open.

Printing

All the computers in the Library as well as the A103 Open Lab have printing capabilities.

NSCC uses a print management system called Papercut to monitor printer usage. When you go to print, a dialog box will pop up asking for your username and password. Your username is your N-number, and your password is the password you use for MyNSCC and Sakai. Once you click 'OK', Papercut will verify that you have funds in your account and process your print job.  You will then need to go to any Printing Release Station to retrieve your print.

Each semester, each student is allotted 250 single sided black and white pages. You can add pages in $5 increments by going to the Business Office in C Wing.

If you have any questions, please contact the NSCC IT HelpDesk at 419-267-1271 or Office A223 on campus.

Uploading an assignment to Sakai

Many classes at NSCC are going to require you to turn in your assignments through Sakai. In order to turn in an assignment, you are going to need to attach the file to the Sakai assignment.

Step 1: Navigate to the assignment in Sakai.

Step 2: Scroll down to the section labeled Attachments.

Step 3: Click the Choose File button to open a file dialog window.

Step 4: In the file dialog box, navigate to your file and select it.

Step 5: Click Open to attach it to the assignment. You should now see your file listed in the Attachments for the assignment.

Step 6: If you are finished with the assignment, click the Submit button. If you are not finished, click the Save Draft button to save your progress; however, make sure that you come back and click Submit before the assignment is due.

Data Storage

The computers on NSCC's campus do not have drives for floppy disks.

The best way to store your data is with a USB flash drive. These can be purchased in a wide range of sizes and are available in the NSCC bookstore.

The Library maintains a Lost and Found for lost flash drives. If you've left one behind, check at the circulation desk to see if someone turned it in.

Wireless Network

Northwest State's wireless network (WiFi) is called: NSCC.

The WiFi password is: northwest
