Faculty and Staff Guide to Library Resources: Learners and Library Resources

Information for NSCC faculty and staff

How will students access library resources?

When an NSCC student needs to find resources to complete a paper or other assignment, there are a variety of ways to get the word out.

FACULTY (AND STAFF) CAN:

  • Add the "syllabi statement" to your syllabus
  • Mention the NSCC library in class (our location, willingness to assist students, resources available, etc.)
  • Mention the "Library Resources" link in Sakai, located along the left-hand side of the home page
  • Request paper flyers if you think it would help to hand them out in class
  • Ensure that new students are aware of the library and what it can offer to contribute to student success

LIBRARY STAFF CAN:

  • Add announcements to myNSCC, Stall Talk, and Learner Services update videos
  • Send targeted/personalized emails to groups of students
  • Add content to the Sakai "Research & Writing Support" site and to various online guides
  • Add online guides to courses in our LMS (Sakai)
  • Publish paper flyers as needed
  • Maintain a suite of short tutorial videos on research topics
  • Create video tutorials as requested to fulfill a specific research need
  • Offer research workshops at various times during fall and spring semesters, in collaboration with ENG faculty

We appreciate everyone's help in directing students to us when they need resources!

PLEASE NOTE: Effective fall semester 2021, the library no longer charges LATE FINES to students for books returned after the due date.  We have implemented "autorenewals" as a convenvience, and books will automatically be renewed until the end of the semester unless the student account has a hold or the item iteself has a hold (is wanted by another person).  The library does charge replacement and/or processing fees in some cases.
